Meet the Principal

Christopher Schmit, Principal

Christopher Schmit became the principal at Harding Middle School in 2020 during the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic. He successfully navigated virtual learning and ushered students back into classrooms as the COVID restrictions eased at DMPS.

Schmit holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in Principalship K-12 from the University of Northern Iowa. He has also earned an educational specialist degree from the University of South Dakota.

Schmit started as a classroom teacher in Waterloo, and then became a vice principal in LeMars. He started works as an associate principal at Hiatt Middle School in 2018.
